England’s record wicket-taker in Tests was hurt during last week’s Roses match between Lancashire and Yorkshire in the County Championship. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the 34-year-old pace bowler will be the subject of further assessment on Wednesday to “understand the extent of his injury”. Anderson is not part of England’s one-day plans, but will be eager to regain full fitness ahead of the Test series against South Africa, which begins at Lord’s on July 6....

London, Aug 13 (PTI) All-rounder Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as England today named an unchanged 13-man squad for the third Test against India, starting in Nottingham on Saturday. The only addition could be of Stokes. But the England selectors will take a call on the same once his ongoing court-trial in Bristol for affray charges ends later this week. Stokes’s ongoing trial on a charge of affray saw him left out by England as they embarrassed India by an innings and 159 runs in the second Test at Lord’s yesterday to go 2-0 up with three to play in the five-match series....

The Yorkshire player saw a hand surgeon in Leeds on Tuesday after suffering the injury in the second test at Trent Bridge, which South Africa won by 340 runs to level the series 1-1 with two matches remaining. The left-hander will be monitored by England’s medical team and could be ready for next month’s final test at Old Trafford, after the third test at the Oval starting on July 27....

Manager Roy Hodgson was delighted at the way his side beat Wales 2-1 - the first time they have won after trailing at half-time in major tournament finals - in Lens on Thursday to top the group with four points from two games. The T20Is saw both sides showing their class and skill to outsmart the other before India eventually came out triumph to take the series 2-1. It was another case of India managing to stage a comeback after being pushed back. India will go into the series knowing that England are in red-hot form in the ODIs, having just whitewashed Australia 5-0 last month. What the hosts will acknowledge though is that the opposition is a lot tougher than a side which was missing many of its regular starters....

There was no doubt about who set the game up for India. It was the spin and guile of Kuldeep Yadav which had the hosts reading the wrong book once again as the left-arm spinner went onto create history, register the best figures for any spinner against England in ODIs. His 6 for 25 was well backed by a superlative century by Rohit Sharma which broke the chase completely. Shikhar Dhawan gave India a quick start and then Rohit combined with his favorite batting partner in Virat Kohli to put India on course for a clinical win....

England would be high on confidence as they beat India 2-1 during the ODI series. Also, their key player Joe Root has found formed after hitting back to back centuries against India. Last time, these two teams met in 2014, England defeated India 3-1 where MS Dhoni was the captain. Murali Vijay and Joe Root were the leading run makers and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and James Anderson were the top bowlers....
